The Atonement Quotes

  • ·         “We understand that the Atonement of Jesus Christ gives us the opportunity to overcome the spiritual death that results from sin and, through making and keeping sacred covenants, to have the blessings of eternal life.”

o    Dallin H. Oaks “Teachings of Jesus,” Ensign, Nov. 2011, 93

  • ·         "For us our Heavenly Father gave His Son. For us our Elder Brother gave His life.  At the last moment the Master could have turned back. But He did not. He passed beneath all things that He might save all things: the human race, the earth, and all the life that ever inhabited it.  No words in Christendom mean more to me than those spoken by the angel to the weeping Mary Magdalene and the other Mary as they approached the tomb to care for the body of their Lord: “Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen” (Luke 24:5–6).  With this pronouncement, those who have lived and died, those who now live and one day will die, and those yet to be born and yet to die had just been rescued.  As the result of Christ’s victory over the grave, we shall all be resurrected."

o   President Thomas S. Monson "He Is Not Here, but is Risen" Liahona April 2011

  • ·         “For us our Heavenly Father gave His Son. For us our Elder Brother gave His life.  At the last moment the Master could have turned back. But He did not. He passed beneath all things that He might save all things: the human race, the earth, and all the life that ever inhabited it.”

o    Monson “He is Not Here, But is Risen”  Liahona April 2011

  • ·         “That is what Latter-day Saints do around the world. That is the Light we offer to those who are in darkness and have lost their way. Wherever our members and missionaries may go, our message is one of faith and hope in the Savior Jesus Christ.”

o    Boyd K. Packer "The Atonement"

  • ·         "Though we are incomplete, God loves us completely. Though we are imperfect, He loves us perfectly. Though we may feel lost and without compass, God’s love encompasses us completely… He loves every one of us, even those who are flawed, rejected, awkward, sorrowful, or broken."

o   Dieter F. Uchtdorf "The Love of God" General Conference 1992

  • ·         “The Savior, through his infinite atonement, provides that vital element for us. He asks us to provide the other element—even a broken heart and a contrite spirit—for he will not force us.”

o   John H. Groberg "The Beauty and Importance of the Sacrament" General Conference April 1989

  • ·         “His love for us was and is so great that he volunteered for the unspeakable burden of carrying the weight of our sins.”

o    Marion D. hanks "I Will Look Unto the Lord" General Conference October 1986

  • ·         “When we disobey the laws of God, justice requires that compensation be made—a requirement which we are incapable of fulfilling. But out of his divine love for us, our Father has provided a plan and a Savior, Jesus Christ, whose redeeming sacrifice satisfies the demands of justice for us and makes possible repentance, forgiveness, and reconciliation with our Father.”

o    Ronald E. Poelman "Gods Love for Us Will Transcends our Transgressions" general Conference April 1982

  • ·         “By his atonement Jesus brought men within the reach of eternal life. However, he did not guarantee eternal life to all men as he did guarantee immortality.”

o    Marion G. Romney "The Worth of Souls" General Conference October 1978

  • ·         “Though difficult for us to understand, Jesus himself must have been strengthened and sustained by Moses and Elijah to prepare Him for the suffering and agony ahead for Him in working out the infinite and eternal atonement of all mankind.”

o   David B.  Haight "We Beheld His Glory" General Conference April 1977

  • ·         “Think about the ultimate gift of the Atonement and its reminder in the sacrament that blankets us with love and hope and grace.”

o    Sharon G. Larsen "Agency- A Blessing and a Burden"  General Conference October 1999

  • Position Statement:

This is such a blessing to everyone.  It’s very overwhelming for me to think about what Christ did for me.  He did it for every individual because he loves us and wants us all to be together as a family in Heaven.  Thinking about this makes me evaluate my life more.  He saw the potential in me and I want to try and live up to it.  He’s already done his part in the redemption process; we just need to do our part.  It’s kind of stupid to not take advantage of the opportunity and blessing we’re given to be clean.  I know that in the future I will try and not disappoint him.  That’s what I want to be able to do, is evaluate my day and know that I made him happy with me.
